African Refugees from Ukraine – What legal rights do I have in Germany? What will happen to my studies?
Information events for African refugees from Ukraine
As has become clear in recent weeks, it is not „only“ more difficult for people without Ukrainian citizenship and especially BIPOCs to leave Ukraine, but also to access the aid provided in Germany.
Therefore, the forum „Help for Africans from Ukraine in Germany“ (HAUG) emerged from a meeting of the All-Nigerian Community convened by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Germany on 15 March 2022.
Under this forum, African diaspora organisations and volunteers across Germany have come together to form a network to support refugees from the Ukraine war, especially those from African countries.
This initiative has now organised two online sessions for this month:
The first session on 6 May is about studying in Germany – „Information Session on Studying in Germany“ – organised together with the group „Uni-Hamburg Hilft“. There, students will learn how they can continue their studies in Germany.
In the second event on 11 May, legal advice for Africans from Ukraine will be offered by the lawyer Björn Stehn. He specialises in migrant issues in his work.

The aim of this initiative is to inform those affected about their rights and possibilities, as well as to clarify open questions and thus enable them to take action.
Other services offered by the initiative are a WhatsApp and Telegram group and a website where relevant information for Africans and other refugees in Germany is shared. They also welcome new arrivals and help organise accommodation for them.

Informationsveranstaltungen für afrikanische Geflüchtete aus der Ukraine
Wie in den vergangenen Wochen deutlich wurde, ist es für Menschen ohne ukrainische Staatsangehörigkeit und besonders BIPOCs nicht „nur“ schwieriger die Ukraine zu verlassen, sondern auch in Deutschland an die zur Verfügung gestellten Hilfsmittel zu kommen.
Daher ging aus einer, von dem Vereins Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Germany, einberufenen Versammlung der All-Nigerian Community am 15. März 2022 das Forum „Help for Africans from Ukraine in Germany“ (HAUG) hervor.
Darunter haben sich deutschlandweit Vereine der afrikanischen Diaspora und Freiwillige zusammengeschlossen und gemeinsam bilden sie nun ein Netzwerk zur Unterstützung Geflüchteter des Ukraine Krieges, besonders derer aus afrikanischen Ländern.
Diese Initiative hat nun zwei online Sitzungen für diesen Monat organisiert.
Die erste Sitzung am 6. Mai behandelt das Thema Studieren in Deutschland – „Information Session on Studying in Germany“ – diese ist gemeinsam organisiert mit der Gruppe „Uni-Hamburg Hilft“. Dort werden Studierende erfahren, wie sie ihr Studium in Deutschland fortsetzen können.
In der zweiten Veranstaltung am 11. Mai wird eine Rechtsberatung für Afrikaner*innen aus der Ukraine – „Legal Advice for Africans from Ukraine“ – mit dem Anwalt Björn Stehn angeboten. Dieser hat sich in seiner Arbeit auf migrantische Themen spezialisiert.

Das Ziel dieses Angebotes ist es Betroffene über ihrer Rechte und Möglichkeiten zu informieren, sowie offene Fragen zu klären und sie damit zum Handeln befähigen.
Weitere Angebote der Initiative sind eine WhatsApp und Telegram Gruppe und eine Website, wo relevante Information für Afrikaner*innen und andere Geflüchtete in Deutschland geteilt werden. Zudem empfangen sie Neuankömmlinge und helfen Unterkünfte für sie zu organisieren.
